Tent Conference, Houston TX

CBY teens presented information about CBY at a workshop during the national Big Tent Conference in Houston TX !   They shared with participating youth and adults how CBY works and provided education as to how to develop positive assets within their own groups.  This was an outstanding opportunity for our students, and they provided a wonderful interactive session in addition to a positive presence throughout their travels and stay in Houston.

CBY teens recognized with "Youth in Action Award" from New Futures!  October 13, 2010
Our CBYers were honored at a reception in Manchester as part of New Futures' 12th Annual Leadership Recognition and Awards Celebration for the state and local levels!  CBY members received a plaque in recognition of their contributions.  Photos here.

12th Annual Holiday Babysitting Sunday   December 5 and Saturday December 11, 2010
Once again, this was a wildly popular event for the CBY teens, the children being watched and their parents.
 
Many thanks to New Morning School for donating the use of their facility every year for 11 years !!!
Also, thanks to Hannaford on Jenkins Road in Bedford for donating some supplies for Gingerbread House making!
 
Six CBY teen members presented at BIG TENT Conference in Houston, TX  November, 2010!
This is the leading conference for people who help kids succeed in schools, families and communities. Our teens taught an international audience how their model of youth-led collaboration and volunteerism works in the Bedford community. Adults and youth who attended the workshop engaged in a fast-paced interactive session and gave overwhelmingly positive feedback. Our teens also attended many workshops to expand their knowledge and bring back strategies that work in other communities! 
 
Keep Your Family Safe - Have you Checked Your Medicine Cabinet Lately? Wednesday November 10, 2010
Helen Pervanas, PharmD, provided a highly informational interactive session regarding safety and environmental concerns associated with prescription and over the counter medicines. This timely topic also covered proper disposal of unwanted medications and the importance of removing them from the home.

CBY teams with Centrix Bank to clean up Camp Allen! Monday October 11, 2010
Monday, Oct. 11, 2010 on their day off, CBY volunteers cleaned up for the fall closing of Camp Allen in Bedford. Centrix Bank sponsored the event and CBY provided the organization and muscle to help our neighbor with moving equipment, raking and other fall cleanup!Pictures here.

CBY hosted its ever-popular youth booth with spin art & tattoos and the famous dodge ball extravaganza! In addition this year, CBY members assisted the Craftworkers' Guild with their pinwheel-making activity.

Teen Munch, Speaker and Raffle Night Saturday, June 5, 2010
An evening of fun co-sponsored by BHS National Honor Society included dinner and, by popular demand, Peter DiGiulio speaking on "Why Say No!" with terrific enthusiasm. Raffles were held for a gift card and for NHS baskets with various themes, proceeds benefiting Holly's Hope toward finding a cure for Friedreich's Ataxia.

Stand By Me Friday June 4, 2010
Four CBY teens presented 3 sessions at Stand By Me on Friday, June 4, 2010. What an exciting opportunity to speak with 7th grade students and parents about the program and benefits of CBY and asset development! Our whole teen group worked together over several months to develop stimulating, interactive sessions that were well received by the audiences. One of the activities included Valued Asset Builder wristbands that are being distributed by the attendees to people who have made a difference in their lives. Bedford Rotary Road Race water station Saturday May 22, 2010
CBY students, parents and siblings hosted a water station for thirsty runners in the 12K race.

An Interview with Local Experts: “Straightforward Strategies to Keep Teens Safe, Resilient and Substance Free”  May 5,2010 
Sponsored by CBY, this May 5, 2010 event was facilitated by Doug Pearson and aired on BCTV. (You can watch here any time.)  Panelists included health care professionals, law enforcement, school and counseling community members who discussed the realities of teens and substances, and strategies for helping our teens navigate adolescence safely. 

Movie night  Friday, April 9th, 2010 
This ever-popular co-sponsored by CBY and BHS SADD, was at Bedford High School and featured the animated film 
UP! The capable teens organized and executed yet another successful event with proceeds benefiting a local charity.
